Emergency services program offered at college

News from Salish Kootenai College

PABLO — This fall, Salish Kootenai College will introduce a new one-year program in Emergency Services. In fall quarter, students will take an Emergency Medical Technician course that prepares students to take the EMT registry examination. The program also includes courses in emergency incident management, hazardous materials, emergency communication, and wildland firefighting. Students who complete the program will be prepared for entry level positions in various emergency services including emergency operations. Additional financial aid may be available for students during fall quarter.

Admission to the Emergency Services Program is limited. An application is available on the program website or from the SKC Admissions Officer, 406- 275-4855. Admissions requirements are described on the program website, http:// skc.edu/?page_id=5962.

Salish Kootenai College also offers other health-related programs, including Medical Assisting, Nursing, and Dental Assisting. For information about any of the academic programs, contact the SKC Recruiter, Juanita Swaney, at 406-275- 4028.

Stream flows below average

News from Energy Keepers, Inc.

POLSON — Representatives from Energy Keepers, Inc., NorthWestern Energy, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and Bureau of Indian Affairs conferred on June 28, 2016 regarding current and projected operation of the Seli’š Ksanka Qlispe (formerly Kerr) Project.

The current outflow is about 10,700 cubic feet per second and the lake elevation, as of July 4 at midnight, was 2,892.85 feet.

In June, the natural streamflow averaged 48 percent of average based on historical data from 1981- 2010. Precipitation accumulation was 33 percent of normal as measured by the National Weather Service at the SKQ Dam. July’s natural inflow is forecast to be about 67 percent of normal. Current water supply forecasts show July-September at about 76 percent of normal.

EKI is a tribally-owned corporation with which CSKT has delegated the authority and responsibility to manage, operate and maintain the SKQ project on behalf of CSKT.

Class of ’76 reunites
