ST. IGNATIUS – It’s become a tradition to wrap up the Good Old Days weekend with a fly-in at the airport, and this year was a success despite a slight change.

The Young Eagles flights were canceled due to issues with a newly required training course that the pilots were not able to attend this year.

But folks flocked to the event to fill their plates with huckleberry pancakes and other breakfast favorites. Jason Leishman, 7, enjoyed looking into the cabs of more than a dozen airplanes. “The coolest one was the first one,” he said. “It’s a medical plane with cool stuff inside.” He was referring to the Alert plane on display from Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Mike Lindemer flew over the mountains in a yellow J3-Cub from Seeley again this year to visit. He enjoys looking at the different kinds of airplanes.

“Every airplane has its own unique feature,” he said. Some of the planes were built to haul passengers and others have more power to fly through the backcountry.

The airport will be closed July 26 to Aug. 1 while the runway gets resealed, which happens every couple of years.
