There's been lots of activities going on this summer ... fairs, markets, parades and celebrations. The Internet says our 90-plus degree weather is ending this week, which is good news for most of us!

The end of Flathead cherries and wild huckleberries is approaching. We can look forward to local harvests of zucchini (yes, some of us enjoy them), fresh tomatoes and other garden produce, and the Dixon Melons. The suntanned crew has been working hard for weeks to get the long-awaited melons ready for our eating pleasure.

Come join us for meals twice a week at the senior center in Dixon; meals are only $4. Mondays at 6 p.m. is dinnertime and lunch is at noon on Thursdays. Bring your family and you won’t have a dinner mess to clean up. These meals are also great to share with your summer company.

The menu for the rest of August:

— Monday, Aug. 15: turkey dinner

— Thursday, Aug. 18: huckleberry pancakes, sausage

— Monday, Aug. 22: stir-fry with rice

— Thursday, Aug. 25: chili, cornbread

— Monday, Aug. 2: chicken broccoli Alfredo

Meals include fruit, vegetables, homemade bread and yummy desserts .

Pinochle will be played on the fourth Monday after dinner, which will be Aug. 22. New players are welcome.
