RONAN — People attending Thursday’s Ronan Roundup toured new additions at K. William Harvey Elementary School. The new construction includes four classrooms added to the south end of the building that will replace two portable buildings that formerly housed four classrooms.
“They were not meant to be a classroom, they are more of a storage unit,” Interim Superintendent Mark Johnston said. Anyone interested in the two storage units can submit a sealed bid prior to 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, when the bids will be opened.
A commons area, kitchen and serving area was also added to the north side of the building off the north hallway that leads to the gym and cafeteria. The new area will make serving food easier for kitchen staff, and the students will eat in the commons area rather than the gymnasium. Because food is made at Ronan Middle School and trays are trucked to the elementary schools, kitchen staff had to load up dirty trays after lunch. Now they’ll have their own dishwasher to clean trays.
Bathrooms near the gym have also been updated with new toilets, flooring, countertops and sinks with touchless faucets that turn off and on automatically.
Two additional classrooms have been built on the north end of Pablo Elementary School, part of the Ronan School District No. 30.
The approximately $2 million project was funded with money the district had set aside for upgrades.
“There was no extra cost to the taxpayers,” Johnston said.
