Mission Valley Children’s Choir to begin again

RONAN — The Mission Valley Children’s Choir will begin its second year on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Faith Lutheran Church, 406 5th Ave. SW in Ronan. Rehearsals will be held from 4-5 p.m. every Wednesday. The choir is open to children from the Mission Valley in grades second through sixth. The directors of the choir are Mrs. Cathy Gillhouse and Pastor Seth Nelson. Refreshments will be served each week and participation is free of charge.

Many different styles of music will be rehearsed and performed by the choir throughout the year, from multi-cultural, spirituals, folk songs, show tunes, patriotic, sacred and seasonal. It is Gillhouse’s goal to expose the children to as many styles of music as possible while having fun.

Cathy Gillhouse is the former Ronan School Choir teacher and director of the Ronan Show Choir. She taught music for 41 years. She has also performed in 15 Port Polson plays and musicals, and she is presently harpist for the University of Montana.

Pastor Seth Nelson has been participating in choirs for 26 years. He composes and performs his own music and has had several years of teaching experiences. He has also sung internationally. He will direct the choir and accompany the choir on guitar and drums.

Cathy said she and Seth are very excited about directing the choir for its 2nd year. They hope it continues to be a fun and educational activity for Mission Valley children.

Suffrage Movement topic of businesswomen’s lunch

News from the Missoula Businesswomen’s Network

RONAN — In an election year, a person’s right to vote is a vital topic, particularly those who gained this right long after 1776. Senator Diane Sands will speak on “History of Montana’s Women – Suffrage Movement” at the Missoula Businesswomen’s Network Mission Valley Sub-Network on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 11:45 a.m. The meeting is open to all members and any non-members who have not attended two previous MBN meetings. Lunch is sponsored by Laurie Dassonville of Send- OutCards.

“Since joining MBN in 2010, I’ve had many wonderful opportunities for business and personal growth. I would have to say having Senator Diane Sands take the time to share her knowledge and wisdom on Montana Women’s History is quite an honor. I believe it is important to remember where we have been as women so we continue to move forward for future generations to come,” said Dassonville, Co-Chair of the Mission Valley Sub-Network.

Elected to Senate District 49 in 2015, Diane Sands has been very active on women’s issues all her life and has a deep understanding of history’s impact on present day events.

Sands created the first Women’s Resource Center at the University of Montana in 1968, spent 50 plus years as a historian of Montana, directed the Montana Women’s History Project, worked at the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula and received the Governor’s Award for the Humanities.

Founded in 1985, the Missoula Businesswomen’s Network (www.discovermbn. com) is committed to increasing the personal and professional effectiveness of its members by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and education and fostering interaction among women leaders.
