Invasive species council to hold listening session

PABLO — The Montana Invasive Species Advisory Council has drafted a statewide plan to manage invasive species and is inviting all interested partners to join in a discussion on Thursday, Oct. 6 from 1-4 p.m. in the Camas Room of the Joe McDonald Health Center at Salish Kootenai College. All are welcome.

The Council is holding several listening sessions across Montana to include partners in the process of prioritizing and carrying out the recommendations in the Statewide Framework. This meeting will identify regional and local opportunities for future collaboration, support partnerships already managing invasive species, and connect local residents and leaders with the ongoing statewide effort to improve invasive species management.

Public opposed to Wild Horse Island dock

News from Montana State Parks

Montana State Parks announced Thursday that a decision notice has been issued for a proposed public dock at Wild Horse Island at Flathead Lake State Park near Polson. Based on public sentiment that the installation of a public dock would be detrimental on Wild Horse Island, Montana State Parks will postpone this action until further analysis can be conducted.

During the public comment period from April 30-May 30, a total of 101 comments were received, with 19 comments in support and 81 in opposition. The comments are summarized in the decision notice, which may be viewed with the draft Environmental Assessment at http://stateparks.mt.gov/ news/publicNotices/environmental- assessments/ pn_0062.html

Over the next four years, MSP will collect data regarding visitor impacts to the park, human-wildlife conflicts, trespass violations, and safety concerns. The Division will also analyze the recently completed Peer State Analysis Report, which explores how neighboring state park systems address similar water-based state park units. Information gathered during this time, along with input from visitors and stakeholders will determine if a subsequent proposal will be offered for public review.
