POLSON — The Polson Lady Pirates won two out of their last three matches. Sweeping Bigfork on the season, the Lady Pirates won 5-0, Friday, Sept. 5.

“The girls played well together throughout the game, controlling the flow,” Coach Michael Hewston said.

Olivia Hewston, Ashley Howell, Tiara Duford (2), and Amber Clarke accounted for the five goals of the night.

Despite having 25 shots on goal to Columbia Falls four, the Lady Pirates “were unable to capitalize on their efforts,” which ended in a tie Friday, Oct. 1, Hewston said. Amber Clarke delivered a cross ball to Tiara Duford in the 24th minute for the one Lady Pirate goal on the evening.

The third match saw Polson beating the Whitefish Bulldogs 2-0, with goals in the 47th minute and 75th minute by Amber Clark and Ashlee Howell, respectively.

“The Lady Pirates played their best soccer tonight, at home, and for all of the seniors on seniors night,” Hewston said. “Although it was sad in the ending know this was our seniors’ last regular season home game, they really went out in style.” The Lady Pirates finished second in Northwestern A behind Whitefish. They advance to state on Saturday, traveling to Hamilton (No. 1 in Southwestern A) for round one at noon.

The boys’ team also ended in second place, behind Columbia Falls. They go on the road Saturday to take on Corvallis, first in Southwestern A.

No other boys stats were reported.
