ST. IGNATIUS – It’s almost time for superheroes to gather for the third annual Mission Valley Kids Run on Sunday, Oct 16, at 2 p.m.

This year, the chip-timed 5K and one-mile fun run start at Elder’s Park, which is near the historic church.

“It’s a traveling walk/ run so each year a different town gets to experience it,” said Eleanor Vizcarra, board chair for Friends of Ronan Parks and Trails.

The event is being organized by volunteers for adults and kids of all ages, and people don’t have to wear their superhero gear, although prizes will be awarded to the most creative cape, best costume overall, and best super hero family unit.

FORPAT developed the race to raise money for local parks and trails.

“We are a nonprofit organization raising money to enhance parks, trails, and school playgrounds,” Vizcarra said.

Proceeds from past events went to help several Lake County parks and school projects in Dixon, St. Ignatius, Ronan and Valley View.

Race entry fees are $20 per person and $45 for a family. Sign up sheets can be found at Walmart in Polson, the Ronan Library, or on the FORPAT Facebook page. Late registration starts at noon at Elder’s Park.

After the race, face painting and games and snacks will be available. For more information, call Eleanor at 406-261-1481.
