News from the Office of Emergency Management, Lake County

LAKE COUNTY — The public is asked to please not call dispatch prior to burning as the Lake County 911 Communications Center will no longer collect information on open burns in Lake County. This decision was made working closely with the Lake County Fire Warden, fire chiefs in Lake County communities, as well as the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes’ Division of Fire.

In the past the public was asked to call Lake County’s dispatch center to inform dispatchers of the locations of active open burns.

The public is reminded during open burning: —The fire must be attended until fully extinguished.

—Watch for changing weather conditions, such as wind, and be prepared to extinguish your burn.

—Call 911 for help immediately if you feel uncomfortable or the fire gets out of control. —Have fire control tools such as water, shovels, rakes and fire extinguishers ready and nearby prior to starting your burn.

—Have enough person-power to control your fire.

—Burn only natural materials, no man-made materials or trash.

The fall open burn season in Lake County runs from Oct.1 through Nov. 30.
