Editor,

In less than two weeks the vilification of some very good citizens will come to an end. Not any too soon for most of us. In the midst of all the political ads, it is quite difficult to determine what is true and what is false; it seems to me, there is some in each party as both sides endeavor to make their opponent appear ugly, dishonest, unqualified and unworthy of the office which they seek or hold. Sad that mud-slinging is as old as politics and elections.

I believe that there is a better way for candidates to present themselves and their ideas. I’m gathering information from agencies that provide a candidate’s specific responses to matters which I hold to be among my core values. I’m interested in knowing something about the moral values of those seeking public office. Do they believe that living Biblical values is imperative at home, at church and at the office? I’m looking for those candidates who hold that the same moral standard believed in private is to be practiced in public; that men and women of Christian faith have both the right and the responsibility to apply those principals in the halls of government and to influence others to do the same. Does she or he believe that there is happiness, (or the pursuit thereof) for the nation whose God is the Lord (Psalm 33:12a), or that Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people (Proverbs 14:34).

To the founding fathers of these United States, happiness meant that feeling of self-worth acquired by an individual’s contribution to society’s civic life, rather than a pursuit of self-gratification. What’s needed in much of government today is more serving the people rather than serving one’s own self-interest and or taking advantage of others for personal gain; may God bless America with that kind of leadership.
