News from the Boys and Girls Club

LAKE COUNTY — Each month, the staff at the Boys and Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation and Lake County chooses Members of the Month – one boy and one girl from the Polson and Ronan who have exemplified the six pillars of good character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. It’s a hard task, but the staff manages to select just members who have been particularly strong leaders in the Club.

At the Polson Clubhouse, Kyree Lindquist and Donovan Tyce Beeks have been nominated as the notable Members of the Month for October.

At 13 years old, Kyree has been a Club Member for seven years. She is currently working towards becoming a member of the Junior Staff, a group of teenagers that assist the staff in keeping the Club safe and fun. The Club staff greatly admires her for the caring that she shows the younger members. Kyree enjoys reading with the kindergarten and first graders during PowerHour and is especially patient and encouraging when she helps them with their reading and spelling. She is also a leader among her peers and helps the staff keep the other teenage members in line. An athletic, cool and fun young woman, she enjoys sleepovers with her friends and spending time with family on the weekends. She is an avid basketball player and strives to play for the Chicago Bulls when she is older.

Donovan, age 8, has only been attending the Club for two months, but he has already been noted for his respect, fairness and overall good citizenship. His attitude is exemplary of the Club Member expectations, he is polite to all he meets and is always eager to assist the staff with Club chores. He describes himself as caring, smart and adventurous, and the staff greatly agrees with him. He demonstrates his spirit of adventure by being eager to try new activities, and he encourages others to step out of their comfort zones and do their best as well. At the Club, Donovan most enjoys reading during PowerHour. He especially enjoys reading the “I Survived” series by Lauren Tarshis. On the weekends, he likes to spend time with his mom, play with his sister at the Linderman playground and go on hiking trips with his family. When he is older, he would like to be a professional soccer player.

At the Ronan Clubhouse, Loren Rochelle Olson and Jayceon Cutfinger have been nominated as the notable Members of the Month for October.

Loren, 7, has been a member of the Club for one year. She has been chosen due to her positive citizenship, her unconditional caring towards others and her strong sense of personal responsibility. She is kind to everyone she meets and is always eager to lend a helping hand to her fellow Members and staff. During PowerHour, she completes her homework diligently, and she is incredibly engaged and enthusiastic during activity time. A fun, happy and loving girl, Loren says that her favorite part of the Club is getting to celebrate the holidays with her friends and the staff. This Halloween, she has especially enjoyed decorating the Club with handmade crafts, such as spiders, ghosts, bats and scary masks. On the weekends, Loren likes to ride her scooter in the park, play with her baby sister and sleep in. She looks forward to becoming a seamstress one day.

Although he has only been a Member for five months, Jayceon, 9, has already been noted as being a positive Club role model. He is respectful to all he meets and readily takes leadership roles in the Club. He is always ready to try new activities and is very encouraging to his fellow Club Members. According to Jayceon, the best Club activity is dodge ball. He is very athletic and is looking forward to playing football for the New York Giants when he is older. An energetic, smart and adventurous young man, he spends his free time playing basketball, attending church and hanging out with his friends.
