Gregory Blaine Marengo

ST. IGNATIUS — Gregory Blaine Marengo, 65, passed away on Nov. 19, 2016, near his home in St. Ignatius. He was born on May 25, 1951, in Polson to Clarence and Irene Marengo.

Greg was a graduate of Polson High School and an enrolled member of the Salish and Kootenai Tribes. Following high school he began working for Harry Medland. Harry mentored Greg in his chosen career as a land surveyor, which he would continue for the rest of his life. Greg married Ellen Peters in 1981 in Port Orchard, Washington, and they were happily married for 35 years. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1968 and currently attended the St. Ignatius Congregation.

He enjoyed all aspects of the outdoors and was especially noted for his hunting skills. Greg was always available to help others, and in a way, this was his greatest passion. If he noticed a need he always took action to see it met. He was especially fond of children and the elderly and would spend time helping them feel special and important.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Irene; brother, Douglas Marengo and nephew, Joseph Ployhar.

Greg’s wife, Ellen; their three children, Cameron (Michelle) Marengo, Nicholas Marengo and Bethany Marengo; three grandchildren, Kailyn Kristine, Kember Maya, and Kinlee Grae, all survive him. His sisters, Lynda Frost, Sheila Garrison, Cyndie Marengo, Kimberly Marengo and Carole (Keith) Fredriksen; and brothers, Monty Marengo, Bradford (Debbie) Marengo, and Kevin (Peggy) Marengo, also survive him.

In honor of our beloved Gregory’s request, there was a private family service held. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family at: www.shriderthompson.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of Shrider–Thompson Funeral Home.
