RONAN – People lined Main Street to watch the annual Ronan Parade of Lights on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
“The chamber is so thankful that people came out to watch because we wouldn’t have a parade without the people,” said Ronna Walchuk, Ronan Chamber boardmember.
Seventeen groups on floats or foot lit up the parade route followed by emergency response vehicles.
The chamber organized the event and invited Santa Claus to hand out bags of candy at the end. The Ronan Beautification Committee organized the candy bags and high school students helped put them together, she said.
The event was originally scheduled for Friday, but it was changed due to cold temperatures and poor road conditions, and lucky for Santa it was a warmer 36 degrees on Wednesday.
“It was getting colder by the time Santa got done, but it was a great night,” she said. “We had a huge turnout.”
Local businesses donated prizes to the Holiday Treasures drawing so many people went home with gifts.
“We will do it again next year and probably have it on Friday night again like usual,” she said.
