Turner gets deferred sentences for rape, sexual assault

POLSON — A Somers man was given two deferred sentences for rape and sexual assault on Jan. 18.
Judge James A. Manley sentenced Brandon Richmond Turner, 26, to a three-year sentence and a six-month sentence in accord with a plea agreement. They will run concurrently.
Prosecuting attorney Brendan McQuillan said the two victims both supported the plea agreement, although Manley noted that the mother of the rape victim was against it.
McQuillan said “things are strained” between the rape victim and her mother, and added that the victim went from being a “very successful 16-year-old high school student to being an IV drug user.”
The sentence, which requires Turner to pay $13,828 in restitution, contains 56 conditions, including sex offender treatment.
According to court documents, Turner sexually assaulted two girls at a Bigfork-area cabin where he was staying temporarily in 2013. The charge wasn’t filed until Jan. 16, 2015 because the information didn’t come to light until one of the victims was confronted about signs of depression, according to a court filing by Lake County Attorney Steve Eschenbacher.
At sentencing, Turner apologized for his actions. It was noted that he previously had a negligible criminal record.
