Elk, deer special application drawing deadline is March 15

WESTERN MONTANA — Hunters are reminded that the deadline for applying for bull and antlerless elk and mule deer buck permits is March 15. The deer and elk permit application packet is available at FWP license providers and online at FWP’s website fwp.mt.gov. The deer and elk permit application packet explains the rules for each hunting district and gives directions for applying. Hunters can apply online, or they may stop in to the FWP Office on North Meridian Road and apply in person.

All elk B licenses previously offered in Region One are now “antlerless elk permits.” Hunters who wish to hunt antlerless elk in Region One must apply by March 15. Applicants must hold a general elk license in order to apply. Hunters who receive an elk permit must use it with a current general elk license. An elk permit does not allow the hunter to take as second elk. There will be no antlerless elk B licenses available in Region 1 during the June 1 deadline.

For more information, call FWP Region One at 752-5501.

Ice fishing class offered for women

KALISPELL — The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program is sponsoring an ice fishing class on Feb.17 and 18.

With modern gear, ice fishing is fun, safe and comfortable. This class is for beginning or intermediate female anglers who want to learn the basics or improve their fishing skills. Participants must attend the evening class on Feb. 17 at the FWP Region 1 office in Kalispell. Fishing on the ice will take place Saturday morning, Feb. 18, at a location near Kalispell. Participants do not need a fishing license as this class has been issued a license exemption. The class fee is $15 and all ice fishing equipment and supplies will be provided if needed.

For more information and to register call Liz Lodman 406-444-9940 or email her at llodman@mt.gov. Registration forms are available at the Region 1 FWP office or on the FWP web site at fwp.mt.gov under Becoming an Outdoors-Woman.
