News from the Polson Boxing Club

POLSON — The Polson Boxing Club has started a fundraising campaign for insurance, travel and equipment. Our organization does not charge participants nor do we have employees. We are offering donors a club t-shirt for their contribution of $20 or more.

Bill West was chosen as our first t-shirt model. West is like any other member in all ways except one: he is 74 years old.

“This is not a tale spun to create hype, I am an eyewitness to the existence of Bill West. He is of the sort that inspired legends like Paul Bunyan and John Henry (memorialized in the song, “Big Bad John”). Bill is a regular participant in our full-contact fight club,” Coach Matt Lee said.

Every summer West spends his time working as a sawyer and golfing. During the winter months you will find Bill exercising with the Polson Boxing Club. Each night he will be at practice unless we have picked up new snow. On fresh powder days he will sneak off to go snowboarding.

“Only old people ski,” West said.

West has added the Polson Boxing Club to his Facebook page. He doesn’t get on Facebook very often because he keeps forgetting his password. The password we picked for him is “KanyeWest” but the mnemonic eludes him while the rest of us can’t forget it.

West thinks boxing gloves are overrated and only extend the inevitable. His incessant pleas to return to bare-knuckle workouts have fallen on deaf ears. Coach Lee won’t budge.

“Where can I find 20 year olds who are willing to crawl into the ring for a beating from a senior citizen? It is hard enough to find him sparring partners who wear gloves,” Coach Lee said. “Bill is like a hybrid of Hemingway and Jack LaLanne. He doesn’t realize the rest of us are not interested in going, ‘To the death!’ as he often says when entering the ring.”

Come by the Polson VFW, put on our shirt and show your support of this organization. The VFW allows the Polson Boxing Club to exercise upstairs for free. Each practice ends with our team shouting at the old man, “KanyeWest, Bill — your password is KanyeWest!”
