News from Polson Scholarship and Education Foundation

POLSON — Seventeen scholarships are available this spring to Polson High School graduates provided by the local Polson Scholarship and Education Foundation organization.

Money for PSEF, formerly Polson Dollars for Scholars, is generated by various fundraising events, donations from individuals and clubs, and from families who provide scholarships in memory of loved ones.

Parents of students who are attending college should be aware there are many scholarships to provide financial assistance to PHS graduates who are continuing their education. These scholarships are for an accredited four-year, two-year, community college or vocational program. Community members provide $500 for a scholarship and Polson Scholarship and Education Foundation provides additional funds of up to $2,000 to increase the amount of the scholarships from $500 to $2,000.

Many different scholarships are also available for graduating Polson High School seniors. These scholarships for $500 are provided by individuals from the Polson community. Polson Scholarship and Education Foundation matches these scholarships with $500 so students receive up to a $1,000 scholarship.

Qualifications vary with each scholarship. All students are encouraged to apply as these scholarships are for every type of student with various GPAs. Again this year the scholarship application is online at our website: http://blogs.polson.k12.mt.us./psef.

All scholarship requirements and applications can be accessed and entered electronically from this web page. For more information and applications contact Emily Johnson at the Polson High School guidance office at 406-883-6351, ext. 205 or email her at ejohnson@polson.k12.mt.us. Information is also available at our Facebook page at Polson Scholarship and Education Foundation. The deadline for applications is March 17.

PSEF is a local organization established in 2002 (originally Polson Dollars for Scholars). Over $238,000 have been awarded to Polson graduates since the organization began. It is operated as a non-profit, tax-exempt scholarship foundation. The purpose of Polson Scholarship and Education Foundation is to expand access to post-secondary educational opportunities for Polson High School graduates and assist parents with college expenses. Tax-deductible donations and fund-raisers provide funds for the organization. All donations and monies raised goes towards scholarships. The board of directors is comprised of local volunteers.
