POLSON — They may not have been jumping for joy, but they were happy nonetheless.
One hundred and twenty-five of 400 Linderman Elementary students participated in “Jump Rope for Heart” event on March 1.
American Heart Association regional representative Lisa Vesciano said some $4,500 was raised from the event, including $1,118 that was raised online. The latter came after 19 students sent emails to family and friends asking them to donate at heart.org/jump.
Last year only two students sent emails, said Vesciano, a Coeur d’Alene representative who works in Washington, Idaho and Montana.
Out of 175 schools in her region, Vesciano said only 10 have a Jump Rope for Heart event like Linderman, which she called an after-school “party.”
Linderman Elementary physical education teacher Micki Stanley has been organizing the event since 1994, she said. School nurse Susan Breining and Salish Kootenai College intern Jessie Tolliver also helped out.
St. Ignatius Elementary School had a American Heart Association fundraiser in January, while Arlee Elementary will have one this month, Vesciano said.
