Joyce DeMers

POLSON — Joyce DeMers passed away March 13, 2017, in the company of family and friends. Joyce was born on March 9, 1942, in Seattle, to parents Stan and Deloris “Dode” Young. She grew up primarily in Lakeside, attending school and helping with the family’s boat building and marina operations.

Joyce’s love of travel started early. After high school, Joyce attended two years at the College of the Americas in Mexico City where she studied culture and language. At various stages of her life, Joyce lived in Mexico City, London, Turkey, Puerto Vallarta, and of course, Polson.

Throughout her business career, Joyce owned and operated a Sears Store, the South Shore Inn, and a real estate company, all in Polson. Along with her work, Joyce dedicated volunteer time to several causes including addiction support agencies and mentoring.

Joyce’s brothers, Syd and Bruce Young; her son, Chris McGuinness and family (Deborah, Brenna, and Shea) survive her.

Joyce was buried in a private ceremony on March 18. A gathering of all who wish to celebrate Joyce’s life will take place this summer. Many thanks go to the wonderful staff at St. Luke’s Extended Care. Donations to the American Cancer Society in Joyce’s honor are deeply appreciated. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family at: www.thelakefuneralhomeandcrematory.com.
