News from Area VI Agency on Aging

POLSON — The Western Montana Area VI Agency on Aging office has been located in Polson for 35 years. Yet we are often told “I never heard of you before” or “What do you guys do, anyway?” Rather than just put another boring article in the paper where we try to squeeze in descriptions of everything we do, we are planning an event that “shows off ” our many programs. We invite you to attend Snacks and Facts from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the North Lake County Library Meeting Room. Please join us for some good eats and some even better information about the many ways Area VI Agency on Aging serves our older population.

Western Montana Area VI Agency on Aging is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering services in many areas of Western Montana. Our main service area is Lake, Lincoln, Mineral and Sanders counties and the Flathead Reservation. Our Foster Grandparents Program serves the main service area and also Flathead and Ravalli counties, and our Retired and Senior Volunteer Program includes Ravalli County as well.

We promote independence and dignity for our seniors, providing access to services which allow them to remain in their own homes and part of their community. These include information about and access to services available, nutritional support, Medicare help, financial assistance, and volunteer opportunities. We also help to safeguard those in long-term care facilities. We are not a government agency. We are an independent non-profit, however, many of our programs rely on federal, state, or county funds. Those monies come with many regulations and requirements. We hope to see you at Snacks and Facts on April 5. If you are a “well-aged” citizen, or help one, we also hope you’ll call us if you need us, at 406-883-7284 or 1-800- 266-4188.
