POLSON – Voters in the Charlo, Polson and Ronan school districts will have a contested election to decide on May 2.

Balloting will be done completely by mail, although voters can vote in person at the county courthouse. (A decision on whether to allow counties to have mail-in balloting for the May 25 congressional election is pending in the state Legislature.)

Charlo School District No. 7J has seven candidates running for three three-year terms. These include incumbents La Donna M. Fryberger, Tonya Truman and Duane Allen Weible along with challengers Jodie L. J. Buxbaum, Daniel Cahoon, Dion Carey and Tracy Olsen.

Polson School District No. 23 has three candidates for two threeyear terms: incumbents Chanel Lake and Caroline McDonald and challenger Rosemary Hickey.

Ronan School District No. 30(1) has three candidates for one three-year term: Marin Charlo, Andrew W. Holmlund and Jesse Lytton. Incumbent Mark Cheff didn’t file.

Lake County does not handle elections for the Arlee and Salmon Prairie school districts; nor Bigfork, where students who live in the Lake County community of Woods Bay attend. School clerks conduct those elections.

In the Bigfork Elementary School District, incumbents Dana Whitney and Paul Sandry are being challenged by Marie Duncan-Wagers and Monarae Tuhy. Bigfork Superintendent Matt Jensen said Bigfork ballots will be mailed April 17. A general maintenance and operations levy may also be on the ballot. That decision will be made before April 17, Jensen said.

Lisa Koetter filed for the Arlee school board.

A number of school district board seats will be filled without an election due to a lack of competition.

These include: Charlo, one-year term, Dave DeGrandpre; Dayton, James Ferguson; Ronan District 30(2), Bob Cornwell and Rich Janssen; St. Ignatius, Mary Leishman and Peter Matt; Swan Lake, Kvande Anderson; Polson, one-year term, Shannon Lynn Bojorquez; Valley View, Kyla Jaeger (three-year term) and Shane Orien (one-year term); Salmon Prairie Elementary District, incumbent Jessica Martinz.

Lake County elections official Katie Harding said the county will mail out ballots for the school district elections on April 14.
