It was on March 17, 1842 that the first meeting of the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was organized with the motto “Charity never faileth” which is taken from a New Testament scripture within 1 Corinthians.

The Relief society was the first auxiliary organized within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and specifically for the women of the church. On this year’s 175th anniversary, local leaders in Ronan decided that the best way to celebrate would be by following its long standing motto and providing a service to the local community.

Approximately 20 local sisters gathered to make quilts and hygiene kits for local children in need. Members coordinated with several local help organizations until it was finally decided to donate the 30 quilts made during the four hours of service to the sheriff’s department and the 50 hygiene kits to child protective services (CPS) for distribution as needed.

Any additional donation of quilts not needed locally will go to Project Linus, a nation-wide organization whose mission it is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need, through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer blanketeers.
