News from the Montana
Department of Transportation

PABLO - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to construct a new multi-use path along the east side of U.S. Highway 93 and new sidewalk with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) facilities at Big Knife Lane. The project begins at the intersection of U.S. Highway 93 and Division Street at reference post 51.8 and extends north for 700 feet, ending at the existing concrete path located near the pedestrian bridge spanning U.S. Highway 93 at reference post 51.9.

Proposed work includes constructing an asphalt multi-use path, concrete sidewalk, ADA curb ramps, crosswalk pavement markings at Big Knife Lane, and signage. The purpose of the project is to create a continuous pedestrian route in an area where no pedestrian facilities currently exist. This project is sponsored by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation and was selected for funding through MDT’s Transportation Alternatives Program.

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2018, depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.

For more information, please contact Missoula District Administrator Ed Toavs at 406-523-5802 or Project Design Engineer Chad Welborn at 406-994-1843. Box 7039, Missoula, MT 59807-7039, or online at: www.mdt.mt.gov/mdt/comment_form.shtml.
