Judge James A. Manley sentenced the following people on April 26:
Joseph Charles Hunter, 26, of St. Ignatius, was given a two-year deferred sentence with the Department of Corrections on a charge of aggravated assault. According to a court document, Hunter knocked a woman down four or five times and strangled her, leaving marks on her chest and neck. He was given credit for 193 days in jail and required to pay fines and fees of $610. He will be on probation for two years and was required to complete a 40-hour violence and control counseling program.
Damian Armando Talamantes, 43, of Ronan, was given a six-month sentence in the Lake County Jail with credit for 43 days served for violating a protective order. Talamantes was convicted at trial. He was also charged with making threats but the jury was unable to reach a verdict on that charge. According to a court document, Talamantes was served with a protective order by law enforcement, walked away from the home after gathering some belongings and later returned to the area. He was cited for making a threat because he said he would leave but said the officer should be “ready for fireworks,” according to a court record. He was ordered to pay $1,602 for the cost of the public defender (for 60 hours at $26.70 an hour) plus $180 in court fees.
Judge Kim Christopher sentenced the following people on April 27:
Alan James Prindel, 37, of Pablo, was given a 13-month sentence with the Department of Corrections for his fourth DUI conviction. Christopher recommended that he be screened for the Warm Springs Treatment and Change sobriety program. Prindel was also sentenced to five years in DOC with all time suspended except for 126 days in jail after three of his family members were injured in a Sept. 13, 2016 crash on North Foothills Drive. He was given a six-month jail sentence for misdemeanor theft for eating deli items at Pablo Foods without paying for them and stealing chocolate bars on Aug. 6, 2015. The theft sentence will run concurrently with the DUI sentence, which included a bail jumping conviction. Criminal endangerment and criminal possession of dangerous drugs charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. He was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine plus fees.
Isaiah Elgie Thomas, 29, of Polson, had a prior sentence for theft revoked for probation violations. He was sentenced to five years with DOC with one year suspended.
Nico N. Reid, 25, of St. Ignatius, had a prior sentence for criminal possession of dangerous drugs revoked for probation violations. Reid was given a three-year sentence with DOC with a recommendation that he be screened for the men’s Nexus drug treatment program in Lewistown.
Renae Lynn Hammer, 39, of Ronan, was given a three-year suspended sentence with DOC for criminal possession of dangerous drugs. Christopher recommended that Hammer work with the Wrapped in Hope program for pregnant mothers. She was given credit for 10 days in jail. A separate drug charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Sakali Samuel Joseph-McDougall, 19, of Pablo, was given a six-month suspended jail sentence for misdemeanor resisting arrest after he head butted a police officer, according to a court document. Joseph-McDougall was apparently distraught after the death of his threeyear- old brother. Joseph-McDougall said he would like to enter Job Corps and he thanked the judge for giving him a chance. He was given credit for two days in jail. Christopher waived all fines and fees, but said she wanted him to enroll in Job Corps, the military or something similar.
