FRENCHTOWN – Hamilton suffered their first loss of the season by the bat of Lady Pirate
Hannah Fryberger. Fryberger’s two-out solo home run in the top of the seventh inning led Polson to the 4-3 win over Hamilton during the Frenchtown Invitational softball tournament on Friday.

More than twelve teams competed during the two-day tournament with Polson, Ronan and Mission-Arlee-Charlo (MAC) representing the Mission Valley.

Polson went 3-0 during the tournament with wins over Butte Central 8-4 and Florence 5-4 on Saturday.

In the Butte Central game, Polson pounded out 21 hits with six batters having three hits each. Winning pitcher Haley Fyant helped her cause by going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.

It took two runs in the bottom of the seventh for Polson to narrowly slip past Florence 5-4 in their final game on Saturday. Quinn Motichka went 3-for-4 at the plate.

MAC during the tournament, tied Dillon 5-5 on Friday and outscored both Stevensville and Corvallis by double digits 14-2, 10-4 on Saturday.

During the two days, MAC tallied 29 runs on 35 hits, including a home run, six doubles and a triple.

“The girls played very well both defensively and at the plate,” MAC’s head coach Susan Weaselhead said. “I am pleased with MAC’s performance.”

Haley Crawford had the hot bat for the MAC during the tournament. Overall, she went 8-for-12 at the plate with three doubles and seven RBIs.

Azia-Rain Umphrey went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs in the win over Stevensville.

In the season of growth, Ronan went 0-4 during the tournament.  The Maidens fell to Dillon 13-3, Stevensville 16-6, Butte Central 15-5 and Corvallis 12-9.
