Margalo Christensen

RONAN — Margalo “Marg” Christensen passed away in her home last Friday after a short battle with cancer. She was 81 years old and lived in Ronan.

Marg was born in Sheridan, Wyoming, on Dec. 12, 1935. She grew up in Round Butte and graduated from Ronan High School. After graduating, Marg moved to New York City to attend flight attendant school. She was offered a position with Eastern Airlines but decided to follow her heart and moved back to Montana to marry Bill Christensen.

Bill and Marg were together for 57 years. They spent their first 38 years in Hot Springs on their cattle ranch, where they raised three children and started Irrigation Equipment Sales. Marg was known for the delicious meals she always had ready for her crew and her incredible generosity. No one ever left her house without one of her famous desserts. She also enjoyed tending to her beautiful vegetable garden and flowerbeds.

Marg spent much of her time supporting her children and later grandchildren in all of their various 4-H and sports endeavors, hardly ever missing a show or game.

Bill and Marg retired just outside of Ronan. She loved being outside and enjoying the view of her beloved Mission Mountains. Marg spent her 21 years of retirement going for daily walks with her dear friends and volunteering at the Bread Basket in Ronan. She continued to tend to her vegetable gardens and flowerbeds and would welcome anyone into her home with a warm smile and a plate of her famous home cooking.

Two of Marg’s children, son, Shawn (Jen) and daughter, D’Ann (Kenny) Carpenter and six grandchildren, Justin Bras, Koren (John) Stauffer, Reegan and Caden von Wildenradt, and Katelyn and Kara Christensen survive her.

Her husband, Bill; parents, Kermit and Mary Hopkins; brother, Carroll; and daughter, Dawn Bras, precede her in death.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at the Lonepine Hall in Lonepine, Montana. An interment will follow at the Ronan Cemetery.

Memorials in Marg’s name can be made to the Lonepine Hall, in care of Cindy Benson, 8 Lonepine Road, Lonepine, MT, or Partners Hospice, 1 Fourteenth Ave. W, Grandview Clinic, Polson, MT 59860.

Arrangements are under the care of Shrider-Thompson Funeral Home, Ronan. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family online at: www.shriderthompson.com.
