Editor,

American politics and our elected leader is unique in this world. This is why Russia, right now, is so thoroughly disappointed with Donald Trump. They thought he’d follow through on his campaign pledges.

Our presidents do not run our country. In other words, they cannot swing things their way unless the aim has reasonable support because it makes sense.

Mid-April actions were a prime example of this. Our Secretary of State goes to Russia and talks to the Russians exactly the opposite of what candidate Trump, and even elected Trump said.

At home and abroad, the great uncertainty and fears being expressed are not because of the severity and character of the problems. These have not changed. The great uncertainty and fears are because of the great uncertainty about Donald Trump. Will he really be able to follow through on what he said he was going to do, who he was aligned with, and what legislation he’d push through.

What we are seeing, at this point in Trump’s administration, is Donald Trump changing, not the world. We are getting glimpses of this.

It will be interesting to just continue watching and listening as we move along into 2018 and beyond. We can, if we choose, trust the inherent goodness that truly exists within each of us and is always available. This even applies to politicians.
