POLSON — “Health Care Choices – Be Wise,” a skill-building program, will be offered at the Polson Senior Center in May and June 2017. The program is free and open to any adult who is interested in participating in the four program sessions. The purpose of the skill-building program is to help you be a wise manager of your health.

The program is focused on improving general health literacy and knowledge about over-the-counter natural products. You do not have to use natural products in order to take part or benefit from the program. The program involves your active participation in four one to one and one-half hour sessions scheduled every other week. During the first session, an overview and what is involved will be discussed and information about health literacy will be presented. Those who decide to participate will complete a survey packet about basic health information. During the second and third sessions, information on making wise choices about over-thecounter dietary supplements and herbal products and seeking and evaluating health information will be discussed. At the fourth and final session, how to communicate effectively with your health care providers will be discussed and you will fill out a second survey packet about health information and evaluation of the program. Participants will also complete a short mailed survey to evaluate the program six months afterward.

“Health Care Choices – Be Wise” will be offered at the Polson Senior Center at 504 Third Ave. E from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on the following Thursdays: May 18, June 1, June 15, and June 29. If you decide to participate, it is important that you plan to attend all program activities. The program is being offered by Montana State University College of Nursing professors, Drs. Jean Shreffler-Grant, Clarann Weinert, SC, and Elizabeth Nichols.
