Editor,
For a while, my final SPAT (sneaky pitch at Trump). It looks like our nation has brought some of the political chaos and confusion under control with the “special counsel” decision. So, with the count 3 balls and 2 strikes, I’ll just throw this one last pitch and let the umpire make the call.
When America has a president, as we do with Trump, with a sixth-grade fascination with the power-style of leaders of nations like Russia, the Philippines, Turkey, and Egypt, non-partisan action is called for.
Call our system of government whatever you want, be it Democracy, Republic, Democratic republic, Constitutional, Federal republic or Commonwealth, one fact is very clear: the people-power is real.
Donald Trump’s character and mental make-up can relate to the four brutal dictatorships I listed, but “We the People” have freedoms of expression, voting privileges, personal power, and can, will and do ultimately determine the direction we take as a nation. So, let’s keep moving forward now with our new special counsel function and trust that the power of “We the People” prevails. It has always worked for us in the past and will surely continue.
This is the good news.
