Summer has finally arrived and so has our Family Summer Reading Program. The theme this year is “Build a Better World” and our Youth Services Librarian, Kendra, has planned some really fabulous programming and prizes to tie-in to the theme. This year our registration has gone to a digital form. You can register in the library or by using the link on our website. The first day to register is Monday, June 12 at 10 a.m. This annual event is open to people of all ages.

June is audiobook appreciation month. Along with our selection of books on CD we have here in the library, you can also borrow audiobooks from Montana Library2Go for your devices. All you need is a free library card. Audiobooks are an ideal option for reading while traveling, doing house or yard work, relaxing in a pool or on the lake, and they are eligible for Family Summer Reading Program credit. Stop into the Library to check out our selection or go to https://montana. overdrive.com/.

We are very proud to announce that we were awarded the NASA@My Library grant. Only 75 public libraries were selected nationwide, and we are the only library in Montana to have received this grant. The grant will “increase and enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) learning opportunities” for library users throughout the North Lake County Public Library District. Kendra – our resident space fanatic, will spearhead the programming for this grant. Look for a family program in July, a science night for older kids and adults in August with a special guest speaker, and a Solar Eclipse Block Party for the upcoming eclipse on Aug. 21. Additional programs will follow in the future.

Speaking of Space … Ransomware has been a hot topic in the news recently. Its victims range from household PCs to big corporations. Do you know one of the best ways to protect yourself from the effects of being infected by ransomware? Backups. One popular method of backing up your data is by using the “Cloud.” Our technology specialist, Heather will hold a class based on the “Cloud” on Tuesday, June 20 at 2 p.m. Call the library to reserve your spot.

Summer hours have begun here at the library. We are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday- Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Visit our website www. northlakecountylibrary. org, our Facebook page, and check the Calendar section for updates on the happenings at the library.
