Each year one Ronan High School graduate is awarded the “Big G” award for overcoming big obstacles in order to graduate. Marlon J. Starblanket is the 2017 “Big G” recipient.

RONAN – Valedictorian Daniel Koehler used his time at the podium to thank teachers and family at the Ronan High School graduation on Sunday, June 4, and he spoke about human kindness.
He said a Holocaust survivor taught him about the importance of speaking up for every human being. He said she told him not to base someone’s worth on their race or religion.
“Before you think to judge based on a stereotype, take a second to see them as a person,” he said.
Salutatorian Collin McGuyer said he is going to miss high school. He considered failing a few classes so he could continue being a student at the school, but then he decided to be excited about his future, which ended up being a better option.
Commencement Speaker Rita Tingey asked the graduates to believe in themselves because “act two” of their lives was about to begin.
This year’s “Big G” award went to Marlon Starblanket. The award has gone to one student every year since 1985 for overcoming obstacles and making it to graduation.
The graduates also found two pennies taped under their seats with their graduation year as a gift. Principal Kevin Kenelty said they would now always have at least two cents.
