Korbyn J. Pierre sings the National Anthem at the Mission 2017 High School graduation ceremony.  ST. IGNATIUS – Dan Durglo worked a line from a Joni Mitchell song into his speech as the guest speaker for the Mission High School graduation on Saturday, June 3. “You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone,” he sang.

He asked students to appreciate what they’ve accomplished, and to remember that they still have bigger and better things yet to accomplish. He encouraged them to make a difference in the world, learn from mistakes, speak kindly to people, and remember that every problem has a solution.

Durglo is the vice president of Salish Kootenai College, but he got his start as a student in the Mission School District, which is where he graduated. He also taught elementary students at the school for years before becoming the principal.

Salutatorian Mariah Durglo kept her speech short with the ten reasons why she was going to miss high school with relationships with friends at the top of the list.

Valedictorian Megan Wieder said life from here on won’t be easy for the graduates. They will have to get jobs and pay taxes, but they will also get to see their dreams come true.

Athletic Director Jake Bosley announced that the Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year was Nalani Linsebigler for her outstanding achievements in three sports.
