News from North Lake County Public Library

POLSON – North Lake County Public Library’s annual Family Summer Reading Program begins Monday, June 12 at 10 a.m.. Anyone who reads, or is read to, is eligible to participate in this popular summer-long event. This year’s theme is “Build a Better World.”

Readers can register starting June 12, either in person at the library or online at www.northlakecountylibrary.org. Registration will remain open from June 12 through Aug. 12. Readers will receive reading incentives courtesy of our many generous community sponsors, and may enter into raffle drawings for other exciting theme-related prizes.

Weekly Thursday morning activities begin for school-aged children on June 15. All are at 10 a.m. at the library or an announced location. Topics include “Invasion of the Lake Snatchers” on Thursday, June 22; “Building Local” on June 29; “Avian Architecture!” on July 6; and “Build a Better World…And Discover New Ones with NASA!” on July 13. The Family Summer Reading Program will wrap up with its all-time favorite annual Bug Race on Thursday, Aug. 10 before the program officially ends on Saturday, Aug. 12.

On that note, North Lake County Public Library is excited to announce that it was awarded a NASA@MyLibrary grant this spring, and will continue to offer space-related programming for the duration of the four-year grant. More information about our children’s and adult activities centering on the Aug. 21 solar eclipse as well as other space and planetary science subjects will be posted to the library’s website at www.northlakecountylibrary.org as it becomes available.

Upon completion of all eight levels and 32 hours of the Family Summer Reading Program, readers will be eligible to reserve a free ride on the Happy Hippo, courtesy of the library and Bob Ricketts of Three Dog Down. This is a one-day only event, taking place on Tuesday, Aug. 15 – but those who cannot make it may receive an alternate prize.

Our grand prize drawing and ice cream social will take place on Thursday, Aug. 17 at the library. Participants need not be present to win, but several mystery prizes will be given away to those who do attend.

Infants and toddlers can rely on Mother Goose Time to continue through the summer every Monday at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and 12 through 16-year-olds are encouraged to join the Youth Writing Club on Thursdays at 1 p.m., starting on June 15.

Children aged five and older may register for a free library card at the circulation desk. Youth under the age of 18 need a parent or guardian’s signature in order to receive a new card. Library cards are free.
