POLSON – A Dixon man faces a stalking charge and three counts of violating privacy in communications after he allegedly sent more than 700 lewd and threatening emails to a woman over the course of 10 months.

Charles Thies, 54, was arrested May 8 and is being held on $100,000 bond. He also faces a revocation petition in Ravalli County.

He previously had a relationship with a 20-year-old woman that ended in early 2016, according to a court document.

Although the county attorney’s office said Thies sent “well over” 700 emails, a court document also states that the number was probably in the thousands.

The emails, which were allegedly extremely abusive, threatening and profane, were sent from 12 different email addresses and appear to be the product of drug use and intoxication, according to a court document.

Thies, who has a lengthy criminal history with many acts of violence, threatened the woman’s life and that of her child and described outrageous acts of violence and sexual ideations he wished to commit, a court record states.

Thies pleaded not guilty to the charges on May 18 before Judge Kim Christopher, who transferred the case to Judge James A. Manley the next day.

A jury trial is scheduled for Sept. 18.
