News from West Shore Community Library

He was the first Boy Scout to build a bookcase for West Shore Community Library and the first to browse the newly created bookshelves. Jeremiah Jepson, son of Shawn and Gina Jepson of Lakeside, said inspiration came when he needed to do a community project to become an Eagle Scout. With the help of his brother Jacob and his friend Justin Pound, the three worked for more than 52 hours building a new bookcase for the children’s department. With the guidance of Scout Master Richard Rowley, the process proceeded from submitted plans to construction and painting. Sliter’s Lumber and Building Supply contributed all materials.

“I built these shelves for the West Shore Community Library because I felt that we always take from the library, so I decided to build these shelves to give back … as a way to say thank you to the library for everything that they do,” Jepson said.

Jeremiah’s sister Sasha, a Girl Scout, also wanted to give so she contributed $50 to the library.

West Shore Community Library in Lakeside operates on generosity and volunteerism and doesn’t receive any town, county, or state funding. With no tax revenue or paid staff, every book, computer, rent payment and staff hour is supplied through the community’s generosity.
