Editor,

America seems to be at a most unique and critical juncture. And the Trump administration is highlighting elements which we definitely need to address.

As average citizens, we are concerned about our personal relationships, money, our health and our kids. We have an elected government to handle the Russia thing, right?

I watch many news programs. They are filled with arguments, anger, attacks and opinions. The latest tragedy gets time. The latest ridiculous “tweet” gets time. The time is filled with what sells. What is this saying about us? Where does it lead? What are we learning that we can apply to change things for the better? Should we maybe go to church more regularly? Will that help? Do we even think we need to change?

One news show I never want to miss is the “PBS News Hour.” They, too, report all the drama. But they also most always have a great segment in their program where they give about 15 minutes to telling a story about something very positive that is taking place in America. Often it is about some wonderful program on youth education or some healthcare issue. And often, at the end something like this is said: “We don’t know, with our political cuts in federal aid, if this program can continue or not. This is a great concern for us.” Then they “sign off ” and we the people are left with doubts about some wonderful program being thrown in the ash heap because of political greed, fear and ignorance.

So, what’s the answer to all this? I guess a national political change of heart, change of mind; change of motivation; and change of elected political leadership may be called for. Any thoughts on this?
