News from Pistol Creek Rodeo

POLSON – The Flathead River Rodeo has announced a change in the events line up with a one-day ranch rodeo kicking off the weekend on Aug. 24 in place of the Thursday night INFR Region rodeo performance. The INFR region rodeo will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25 and 26, at 7 p.m. nightly.

The Ranch Rodeo will feature everyday ranching scenarios that will test the best ranch hands in fast paced competition. Featured team ranch rodeo events will be team branding, team steer mugging, and trailer loading. A special ranch saddle bronc riding will also be featured.

Pete White, owner of Pistol Creek Rodeo and 2017 Flathead River Rodeo organizer commented, “We wanted to add an event that will get more local participation and keep the three-day event format for our fans and sponsors. We wanted to show our fans other Western lifestyle events that help preserve working ranch cowboys’ way of life.”

The four time INFR rodeo of the year will feature top Native American and First Nations cowboys and cowgirls from across the U.S. and Canada competing in the two-day event.

Participants will compete for prizes and prize money to help them qualify for the Indian National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas held in early November.

Special entertainers at this year’s rodeo will include fan favorite Danger Dave Whitmoyer. Danger entertains crowds from coast to coast with high energy performances, crazy antics, jokes, and a trailer load of trained animals. We will also feature the voice of Ray Champ. Originally from Billings, he now resides in Cut Bank, Montana. Ray is best known for energizing crowds and keeping rodeo fans engaged in the entire rodeo performance. Pistol Creek Rodeo Company from Ronan is tribal member owned and will be producing the three day event. Pistol Creek Rodeo will bring several elite INFR contractors to feature their top bucking stock that are also vying for spots at the INFR in Las Vegas. Pistol Creek Rodeo has been producing local open rodeos in Western Montana since the 1990s and has brought selected stock to the INFR in Las Vegas since 2009.

“We want to match up the top cowboys with the top bucking stock that you would see at the INFR finals. We want to bring that intensity to Flathead River Rodeo,” White commented. “It’s not only great to watch, but top cowboys love to compete on the best of the best.”

Flathead River Rodeo will feature an exciting rodeo performance on Friday and Saturday nights. Plus, food and craft vendors will be on hand at the event.

Flathead River Rodeo is focused on great family entertainment and is committed to developing strong business relationships that will create value to our community.
