CHARLO – It was a wet, sloppy field Friday as the Charlo Vikings football team hosted Noxon, but the weather didn’t dampen the Vikings’ running game as they earned a blowout win, 42-6.

The Vikings struck first with a touchdown from quarterback Tra Ludeman, putting Charlo up 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. After another score from Ludeman and a 14-yard touchdown pass to Stephen Delaney, the Vikings held a 20-6 lead at the half. It was all Vikings as they returned to score on the opening drive of the third to lead 28-6.

Charlo would put up another pair of touchdowns, including a fumble recovery by Jacen Petersen on a dropped ball by Delaney, to end all scoring at 42-6. A struggling Noxon team competed in the game with just 10 players.

“Noxon played a very tough, physical game,” head coach Mike Krahn said.

Ludeman had a phenomenal game, with 17 rushes for 209 yards, including four touchdowns on the ground. In the air, the junior quarterback racked up six completions for 67 yards and one touchdown. On defense, Ludeman added 11 tackles.

Overall, the Charlo offense finished with 30 carries for 297 yards and five touchdowns rushing, and 67 yards and one touchdown passing.

“Tra used his athleticism and speed to overcome a very muddy and wet playing field,” Krahn said. “My hat is off to the Noxon ball club as they were competing with a total of 10 players.”

On defense, Charlo continues to hold opponents to little productivity. Charlo was able to hold Noxon’s offense to a total of 148 yards and a season low of 6 points.

“We did a nice job of gang tackling and containing a very good Noxon quarterback,” Krahn said.

With the win, Charlo improves to 6-2, while Noxon fell to 3-5.

It will be a wild week for Charlo, as a short school week means their next game will be Wednesday, Oct. 19, at home against Seeley-Swan. A win will guarantee Charlo a place in the state playoffs.

“We will continue to work on fundamentals and improving our game,” Krahn said.
