Football

CHARLO - Landers Smith rushed for two touchdowns, including a scoring dash of 41 yards, as the Charlo Vikings won their season home opener on Friday over Seeley-Swan 52-6. Garett Vaughan and Jayden Stevens had scoring runs for the victorious Vikings. Smith also hooked up with Sabin Perry on a 35-yard TD pass and on a 15-yard TD pass to Vaughan.

ARLEE – On Friday, the Arlee Warriors stumbled in their home opener losing to Victor 36-28. Greg Whitesell returned a kickoff for a 60-yard touchdown. George Shick added a 24-yard receiving touchdown from Lane Schall in the first quarter. The Warriors also had rushing touchdowns from Darshan Bolen and Ryan Crawford.

Volleyball

ARLEE – Led by Cydni Rogers’ 19 assists and Haley Crawford’s nine aces, the Arlee Scarlets defeated visiting Seeley-Swan on Friday 25-16, 12-25, 25-15, 25-14.  Ashley Revis had eight kills and Eden Morin had 10 digs for the winners. 

FRENCHTOWN – The Polson Lady Pirates went 1-6-1 and the Ronan Maidens went 0-7 during pool and bracket play at the Class A Volleyball Tip Off Tournament in Frenchtown on Friday and Saturday. 

PHILIPSBURG – On Saturday, at the Granite Tourney the Charlo Lady Vikings went 1-3 in pool play, narrowly missing afternoon bracket action, while the Arlee Scarlets advanced to bracket play by going 3-1 in pool play. In the afternoon bracket match, the Scarlets fell to Twin Bridges 14-16, 8-15.

 

Golf

MISSOULA – Polson Pirate Carson McDaniel finished three strokes ahead of the next golfer, winning the two-day Missoula County Public Schools Invitational on Tuesday, August 22. McDaniel carded a 70 on Monday and a 75 to finish the tourney with a total score of 145.

COLUMBIA FALLS — During the Columbia Falls Invitational on Thursday, the Polson Pirates boy’s golf team finished second led by Matt Hobbs’ third place 78 and Trey Kelley’s fourth place 79. On the girl’s side, Lady Pirates’ Esne Yarbrough carded a 98, good for second place. Cali Cannon rounded out the top ten for the Lady Pirates with a 6th place 106.
