CHARLO – Thick smoke from nearby forest fires couldn’t smother the Charlo Vikings’ homecoming celebrations on Friday.

Festivities began with a student body pep rally in the gymnasium followed by the annual homecoming parade that made its way down main street in front of hundreds of Viking fans. There were several floats introducing the homecoming court along with the varsity football and volleyball team.

The 5th graders’ “Vikings are just that dog gone good” float won the elementary competition and the 7th graders’ “floating to a Viking victory” float took the middle school competition.

The 8th graders’ float, which appeared to be the crowds favorite, “KISS the warriors goodbye” rocked the high school competition.

Due to the poor air quality caused by wildfire smoke, Friday nights’ homecoming football game against the Arlee Warriors had to be cancelled and rescheduled. With the cancellation of the football game, this year’s homecoming king and queen were announced at Saturday night’s volleyball game.

The freshmen queen and king were Katherine Groom and Dominic Marquez. The sophomore queen and king were Aspen Bauer and Riley Richard. The junior queen and king were Kaitlyn Cox and Wills Degrandpre. This year’s homecoming king and queen were senior Jaelee Nelson and Bailey Weible.
