POLSON – After 34 years tending bar, Pete Terteling decided to put his knowledge to use as a business owner.

He and his wife, Laurie Joyce, purchased Swanee’s Bar and Grill from previous owner Scot Swan on June 1.

“He just decided it was time for him to have a place to put his own stamp on,” Joyce said of her husband.

Terteling worked at Swanee’s as a bartender for two years prior to buying the business.

Joyce previously worked at Glacier Bank and for Harley Davidson stores in Kalispell and Spokane and brings her customer service skills to the table.

“We’re trying to improve the service quality,” Terteling said.

The couple have hired 13 new employees and have received a lot of positive feedback, he said.

His slogan is: “Happy employees means happy customers.” His previous customers have noticed a big change in service, Terteling said.

The business has also cut down on the menu offerings to focus on the most popular items and improve those, Joyce said.

Business has been good since the couple took over. “It’s been crazy. Non-stop from June 2 until Labor Day,” Joyce said.

The couple plans on upgrading the front of the business by next spring.

Pete’s Lake View Bar & Grill offers American food with pizzas, sandwiches and salads.

Tuesday and Thursday is “Taco Night” from 5-9 p.m. Crisp beef tacos are $1 and soft are $1.50. Friday is “Seafood Night.”

Daily lunch specials are also offered at the business, which will be featured in a Home and Garden TV show, “Lakefront Bargain Hunt,” in the fall of 2018.

An HGTV crew spent two hours on the outside deck of the business on Saturday, Sept. 9. The show features a couple considering which lake house to buy. The decision-making process was filmed at Pete’s.

Pete’s is located at 820 Shoreline Drive six-tenths of a mile past the Armed Forces Memorial Bridge. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. The kitchen closes at 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
