Enter National ‘Letters About Literature’ competition

Letters About Literature: Read. Be inspired. Write back.

Montana’s Center for the Book, a program of Humanities Montana, will be giving Montana students a chance to submit to the national Letters About Literature competition again this year. Letters About Literature is a reading and writing contest for students in grades 4-12. Students are asked to read a book, poem, or speech and write to the author (living or dead) about how the book affected them personally. Letters are judged on state and national levels. Tens of thousands of students from across the country enter Letters About Literature each year. Having students write to authors is a great way for teachers to get kids more deeply engaged as readers, and LAL encourages those students’ passion, reflection, and responses. For more information on how to submit, ask a teacher, email: brooke.beighle@humanitiesmontana.org, or go to http://read.gov/letters/ and watch the Letters About Literature YouTube video to learn more.

Students may enter at Level 1 for grades 4, 5 and 6; Level 2 for grades 7 and 8 or Level 3 for grades 9, 10, 11 and 12. The deadline for all competition levels is Jan. 12, 2018.

Send letters to: Letters About Literature, Library of Congress - 101 Independence Ave. SE - Washington, DC 20540-4921.

Awards are given to winners at the state and National levels.
