News from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

Recent changes for the local members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have been implemented as the Kalispell and Missoula stakes have split and a third stake has been created. The new Frenchtown stake includes the following branches or Wards: Missoula 4th Ward, Frenchtown Ward, St. Ignatius Ward, Ronan Ward, (all previously part of the Missoula stake) and the Polson Ward, Thompson Falls Branch, Superior Branch, and Plains Branch (all previously of the Kalispell stake).

Although it will take some time to expand the stake building in Frenchtown, the members attended their first ever stake conference on Sept. 16 and 17 at the Ronan Ward building where driving distances were shared by having the Saturday meetings in Ronan and the Sunday meetings in Missoula for this first ever and historical semi-annual stake conference for the newly created Frenchtown stake.

The impact of the changes will create less driving distances for the members and leaders, it will split the workload and number of members to be served in each stake, and provide the impetus for a temple at a future date. Currently there is one Latter Day Saint Temple in Montana, located in Billings, and the most traveled temple for Latter Day Saints in Western Montana is in Spokane. Leaders of the new stake include the stake president Adam Smith (Polson Ward), first counselor Justin Dillworth (Frenchtown Ward) and second counselor Bryan Brown (Ronan Ward).
