Polson By Dave Basta for the Valley Journal
POLSON — Well, I didn’t make it to the gym today; that makes 1500 days in a row. I’m going to rename the “john” to “jim.” It sounds better to say I went to the “jim” this morning.

The community Thanksgiving dinner is fast approaching; it will be held on Thursday, Nov. 23. If you would like a hot meal delivered or if you need a ride here to enjoy the great food and fellowship, call 406-883-4735.

Vivian Ross was the high senior bowler last week for women with a score of 175, while Jack Adamson had the high game for men. His 263 score edged my 255 so you won’t see my name other than in the byline. Sharon Sansone’s 469 score edged Frani Basta’s 464 score for high series but Frani had the high handicap series. Jack had the high in men’s handicap series.

Arlee By Bette Samsel for the Valley Journal

ARLEE — Our Arlee Senior Center’s Thanksgiving dinner is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. This is a one-time switch to the second Saturday instead of the fourth Saturday, to allow our cook, and any traveling center members, to have a long Thanksgiving weekend. Please join us on Nov. 18 for a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixin’s.

On Monday, Nov. 20, the foot-care person will be in Arlee from 10:30 a.m.-noon at the Arlee Senior Center. All Senior citizens are encouraged to utilize this service, provided through the Lake County Council on Aging. There is no set fee, but donations are welcomed to assist with the cost of foot-care equipment such as nail clippers and special scissors. These are items the nurses must purchase for themselves and maintain to provide this service. As the old saying goes ... “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” Care “givers” is indeed the word for these dedicated givers of health care. We thank them with all our hearts.

Attention to foot care is especially essential and important for individuals with diabetes. Circulation is often reduced in the feet, leading to reduced awareness of pain. This can allow small pressure sores to develop and to enlarge without being noticed and to possibly become infected. Any infection in the foot is a serious concern for diabetics, with very serious consequences if not treated early on.

Our center representative, Anne Stewart, attended the LCCOA meeting on Nov. 9. The Lake County Council on Aging is planning to hold their meetings every other month at one of the senior centers in Lake County. In January they will meet at the Arlee Center with a lunch following the meeting. Anne also reported the Polson Senior Center will make available tax form preparation assistance beginning after Feb. 1, 2018.

The Arlee Senior Center needs a cook’s helper. Please call 406-726-3213, if you are interested in a part-time position on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., and on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 3-7 p.m. The salary is $9 per hour. We need to find someone to give our cook a helping hand. Experience in cooking not required but is desirable and references from previous employers is needed.

Menus for all of November were in the Nov. 8 issue of the Valley Journal, and are always posted at the Arlee Post Office and Wilson’s Grocery Store.
