McCollum elected mayor of St. Ignatius

ST. IGNATIUS – During the election, Steve McCollum earned the most votes, making him the next “unofficial” mayor. McCollum will be sworn in and take the seat in January.
The Lake County Election Office counted the ballots for the St. Ignatius Municipal General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 7, and reported the unofficial results for the mail-in election by 8 p.m.
Mayor Charley Gariepy decided not to run again this year after about a dozen years on the board. Three people including McCollum were in the race for the position.
McCollum received 89 votes, which gave him 52 percent of the total count. Willy Long was also in the race for the mayor’s seat, and he received 40 votes, which was 23 percent of the total. Daniel Thompson picked up 39 votes for a total of 22 percent.
Two seats on the town council were also on the ballot. Annie Morigeau will take one of those seats with 86 votes. Chris Heffern will take the second seat with 75 votes.
Ralph Foster had 68 votes, and C. Douglas Morigeau had 43 votes. Roger Lemon received 30 votes.
The election office will canvas the ballots and make the election official by ensuring that each vote was included in the results at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
