POLSON — More family fun is one of the goals for this year’s Parade of Lights.

The annual parade, which begins at 6 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 1, at Cherry Valley Elementary, will run in the opposite direction as last year’s parade. After starting it will go down Main Street and end in front of Polson Hallmark, 7 Third Ave. E.

“We both have young families and want more activities for our families,” Joslyn Shackelford said, referring to herself and Shawneen Turner. The women took over after former organizer Jackie Cripe moved to the Chicagoland area earlier this year.

This year’s festivities include Santa lighting a tree at Glacier Bank. He will also hand out an orange and candy to the first 300 youngsters who come.

Activities begin at 5 p.m. and will go until 8 p.m., concluding with a bonfire on Main and Third streets.

Food and hot cocoa will be served with s’mores kits to be sold for $5 that include crackers, two roasting sticks, marshmallows and chocolate. Each kit serves two children.

Glow necklaces and bracelets will be sold on Main Street.

The Polson Business Community is organizing the event.

Shackelford said 28 wreaths and garland with lights were placed on street light poles downtown earlier this month with help from Mission Valley Power employees, Brothers Construction and Gary Dupuis.

Holiday raffle

The PBC will be conducting a holiday raffle. Those who purchase a combined $250 in goods from Polson businesses will be included. Receipts can be turned into The Rack, 308 Main St., or at Polson Hallmark. The grand prize is a trip to Las Vegas, including airfare and hotel. Other prizes include four $500 gift baskets to participating downtown merchants.

The drawing will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Dec. 15 at PBC’s holiday party at Vine and Tap. One must be present to win.
