PABLO - Two Eagle River girls’ and boys’ basketball teams hosted their cross-county rival Charlo in a District 14C match up in the Two Eagle River gymnasium on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Head coach Laura Tenas and her Lady Eagles, who are still looking for their first win of the young 2017-18 season, will have to keep trying as the Lady Vikings routed the Lady Eagles 59-11.

Charlo started the first quarter on a 10-0 run, while the Lady Eagles didn’t get their first points until a little more than three minutes into the quarter on two made free throws from freshman Ce’ Alana Shepard.

Senior Malanya Carpentier followed up with a three-point shot giving the Lady Eagles a brief 5-2 scoring run making the score 12-5. Seven points was as close as the Lady Eagles would get to the Lady Vikings the rest of the evening.

The Lady Vikings finished the first quarter with a 22-5 advantage.

Charlo’s defense held Two Eagle River to a single bucket from senior Alexia Parizeau in the second quarter to take a 40-7 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Lady Vikings ran its 33-point halftime lead to 44 points during the third quarter. Shepard scored the only points in the third quarter for the Lady Eagles. She led all Lady Eagle scorers with four on the evening.

With the “mercy clock” running, sophomore Justina BigBeaver netted the final two points in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter for the Lady Eagles. The Lady Vikings finished the game with six points giving them the 59-11 victory.

For the Lady Vikings, Tyra Hammond scored a game high 16 points, followed by Teaira Truman at 12 points and Kaitlin Cox at 11 points.

In the second game of the evening, the Eagles suffered their third loss in a row falling 60-40 to the visiting Vikings who moved to 5-2 overall on the season.

The Eagles kept the first quarter close, down 6-4 Eagles’ senior Dylan Moran scored the tying bucket and a free throw by senior Stanley Alexander gave Two Eagle River its biggest and only lead of the game 7-6. The Vikings closed out the first quarter with a 12-7 lead.

Two Eagle River couldn’t get any closer than 14-11 in the second quarter and a three-point jumper at the buzzer by Tyson Petticrew gave Charlo a 30-19 lead at the half.

The Eagles made the game interesting at points, but the Vikings kept them at arm’s length – only allowing the Eagles to get as close as ten points the whole third quarter. The Vikings finished the third quarter with a 42-28 lead. Charlo finished the evening with 18-12 scoring run down the stretch to seal the 60-40 cross-county victory.

Brandon Larios recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Brendan McDonald added 10 more points for the Eagles.

Vikings Landers Smith grabbed 10 rebounds and led all scorers with 19 points followed 16 points by Tyson Petticrew.

On the road Thursday evening, the Two Eagle River boys’ and girls’ basketball squads found victory in Victor against the Pirates.

After being up by 10 at the half, the Lady Eagles were held scoreless in the third quarter.  An 18-9 scoring rally in the fourth quarter sealed the deal giving the Lady Eagles their first win of the season.

Carpentier led both teams with a season-high 14 points and Parizeau netted 10 more in the 41-36 victory.

Sophomore Bronco Branson had a big night as he led the Eagles with a game-high 24 points and helped them pick up the 53-40 road win.

McDonald chipped in 15 points as the Eagles improved their overall record to 3-3 on the season.

Following the Christmas break, Two Eagle River will return to game action Jan. 4 on the road at Superior and Charlo will host Seely-Swan Jan. 5.
