POLSON — A shooting Wednesday afternoon on Sanders Street in Arlee left one man dead.

Leonard L. Peak, Jr., 49, of Arlee died from a gunshot wound, according to a press release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

A call came in at 3:35 p.m. and the LCSO, tribal police and emergency personnel responded.

The person who fired the fatal shot was taken into custody and subsequently released.

On Friday, County Attorney Steve Eschenbacher said authorities believe the man fired in self defense.

Other witnesses have been interviewed and the investigation is ongoing.

Peak’s body was transported to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
