Polson advances two grapplers to state finals

BILLINGS – Mission Valley area high school wrestlers, along with over 50 teams and 600 wrestlers, convened at the Rimrock Auto Arena in Billings and competed in the yearly sports spectacular known as the All-Class State Wrestling Tournament.

The tournament started on Thursday and concluded with championship rounds on Saturday. 

In Class A, the Polson Pirates finished the team competition with a 134-point fourth place finish and the Ronan Chiefs finished ninth with 70 team points. In Class B/C Mission-Charlo placed thirteenth with 60 points and Arlee finished in twenty eighth place with a score of 13 points.  

On Saturday, Pirates’ Bridger Wenzel (132) and Parker Adler (152) advanced to the championship match in their respective weight classes but could not come away with titles.

Wenzel won his first-round match by fall in :54 over Jestin Molnar of Laurel. He took the quarterfinal bout by fall over Ayden Role of Columbia Falls, then defeated Lane Paulson of Havre by fall in the semifinal. In the championship match, Wenzel lost to John Mears of Belgrade by a 9-2 decision.

In the first round, Adler won by fall in :38 over Junior Cady of Fergus-Lewistown, then picked up a fall win in the quarterfinals over Brandon Held of Dawson County before advancing with a 7-4 decision in the semifinals over Connor Harris of Havre. Bryce Roan of Hardin defeated Adler by fall in the first-place match.

The Pirates recorded a trio of third-place finishers. They include Mateo Quinones (113), Cameron Brown (145) and Hunter Fritsch (170). Rene Pierre (113) pinned his way to a fifth-place finish for the Pirates. 

The Ronan Chiefs posted five top five finishers: Trapper McAllister (103) claimed third, Hunter Peterson (138) nabbed fourth and both Spencer Stagg (120) and Justin Mays (182) finished fifth.

In Class B/C, Arlee did not have any top six finishers, while Mission-Charlo posted three.

Darwin Adams (138) and Gus Bosley (182) both wrestled their way to fifth place, while Walker Murphy (113) picked up a sixth-place finish for the Bulldogs.
