News from the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes

PABLO – In an effort to help our tribal neighbors to the east, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes will contribute $5,000 for food and water for residents of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.

Relentless blizzard conditions, punishing snow drifts and extreme cold led Montana’s governor to declare a state of emergency Tuesday on the Blackfeet and two other reservations. Reports emerged of residents who were stranded and unable to obtain food and supplies.

“We hope this helps ease their difficulties,” said CSKT Chairman Ronald Trahan. “Everyone on Council agreed this was the right thing to do.”

Tribal officials were making arrangements to wire the funds bank-to-bank before weeks end last week.
